  • Description

In the Peel district of North Brabant, Southern Holland, about 1.500 acres of peat and heather have been ablaze for more than four days.

Favoured by drought conditions and fanned by high winds the fire, which started July 24, has eaten its way two feet deep into the ground.

Fierce heat and thick smoke make hard work for the hundreds of soldiers and civilians fighting what the Dutch Press calls Holland's biggest peat fire since 1921.
