Background: Irish Republican hunger striker Raymond McReesh was buried today (25/5) in his home village of Camlough and another jailed Republican joined the political fast in Northern Ireland's Maze Prison. The funeral of McReesh, a member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) took place after another night of widespread rioting in the Catholic areas of Belfast and Londonderry. Several thousand people converged on Camlough near the border with the Irish Republic to mourn McReesh, the third hunger striker to die demanding political status.

The fourth hunger striker Patsy O'Hara died within hours of McCreesh - O'Hara was the last of the original four hunger strikers. All have now been replaced by new prisoners who are refusing food. The IRA says it has a total of 70 prisoners who are prepared to join the hunger strike as others die.
