    The Arab patriot soldier, Fawzi Kaoukji, died last week in Beirut, aged 86.

    SYNOPSIS: On Friday (17 December) his body was moved from the Berbier Hospital in Beirut for burial at Tripoli. Members of he Palestinian Movement formed a guard of honour outside the hospital. Examination of Kaoukji's body after his death revealed he had received 22 bullet and shrapnel wounds to his head and body during his long participation in the Arab struggle.

    Kaoukji's sons were present at the transfer of their father's body. Also present was a former Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Takieddin Solh. Fawzi Koaukji had been a great friend of King Faisal. He helped found the Saudi Arabian Army in 1936. He had also been a friend of Kamal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. Seven different nations had contributed to his array of medals for bravery.
