  • Description

A mix-up over hotel bookings involving the Zaire Foreign Minister Mr Nguza Karl I Bond today (Sunday, 1 October) threatened London talks aimed at persuading Uganda's President Idi Amin to extend the time he is allowing British Asians to leave his country.

But following a 'phone-call by British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home hopes rose that the storm would quickly subside.

When Mr Nguza arrived in London today he found that the rooms reserved for him at a London hotel were not ready for occupation, and he threatened to cancel the talks he had flown to London to hold with Government officials.

Britain is relying on the talks with Mr Nguza to lead to an intervention by President Mobutu of Zaire to persuade President Amin to extend the deadline he had given British Asians.
