    The second day (Saturday, 26 January) of the Commonwealth Games at Christchurch, New Zealand, saw the Kenyans taking a gold medal in each of three of the men's track events, a silver medal, and a bronze.

    At the end of the second day Kenya was the highest placed of the African countries in the medal table. The Kenyans were in fourth position, with three golds, one silver and two bronzes. Their nearest African rival was Nigeria, and Uganda, in joint eleventh position with one silver medal each.

    First in the table was Australia (seven gold, six silver and eight bronze) second was Canada (seven gold, five silver and three broze) and third was England (three gold, six silver and five broze).
