Background: A Helsinki pedicurist, 18 year old Marita Lindahl, was voted the most beautiful girl in the world by a panel of judges in London tonight. Show won the title in competition with 22 other lovely girls from all parts of the world.

But it was a close contest, some of the judges were in favour of 'crowning' Miss Greece-Sana Casparatou, and Miss France and Miss Italy were also hot favourites.

This was the seventh international beauty contest under the Miss World Title. Tonight's representatives came from countries as near as Ireland and France and as far away as Japan and South Africa.

Tonight' winner received a cash prize of GBP500 and a GBP1,000 sports car. Miss Denmark, Lilian Madsen, and Mise South Africa, Adale Kruger, wore second and third, respectively.
