    THE PAN-AFRICAN CONGRESS ON AFRICAN PREHISTORY ENDED IN SENEGAL ON FRIDAY (8 DECEMBER) WITH A RECOMMENDATION THAT PREHISTORY SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN UNIVERSITIES, AND THAT IT SHOULD BE ACCORDED A HIGHER PLACE IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULA. THE WEEK-LONG CONGRESS WAS HELD IN DAKAR UNIVERSITY.

    THE CONGRESS, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER 170 EXPERTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, SET UP A PERMANENT COMMITTEE TO STUDY METHODS OF PUTTING SUCH A PLAN INTO OPERATION.

    THE SENEGAL MINISTER OF EDUCATION, AMADOU MOKTAR M'BOW, TOLD THE DELEGATES IN THE CLOSING SESSION THAT THANKS TO THEIR RESEARCH THEY HAD SHOWN THAT IN ALL LIKELIHOOD AFRICA WAS THE CRADLE OF HUMANITY.

    THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE CONGRESS WAS M. HUGOT, AND THE VICE PRESIDENT M. BALOUT. MR THURSTAN SHAW WAS THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING VICE PRESIDENT.
