  • Description

Thanksgiving Day in New York, Nov 26, and to crown the cheerful activities of a festive occasion - a grand parade of bands and floats.

Thousands of children cheered as famous cartoon sailor Popeye passed by, a gigantic balloon figure, some 55 feet tall. Popeye was followed by a space-man balloon, the largest of them all, which took three hours to inflate.

Broadway star Bobby Clark rolled past in a navy float, pulled by a 40ft whale replica, and old-time music was provided by the Clover-Leaf String Band, wearing huge feather headgear.

To end the splendid parade - Santa Claus with his reindeer sleigh, inevitable reminder of a fast-approaching Christmas season.
