    ON THE THIRD DAY OF HIS STATE VISIT TO INDIA, EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE OF ETHIOPIA YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE INDIAN COUNCIL FOR AFRICA, IN NEW DELHI. THE EMPEROR PERFORMED THE CEREMONY, WATCHED BY HIS HOSTESS, PRIME MINISTER INDIRA GANDHI, WITH WHOM HE HAD SPENT PART OF THE MORNING, DISCUSSING ITEMS OF MUTUAL INTEREST.

    THE INDIAN COUNCIL FOR AFRICA IS A NON-OFFICIAL ORGANISATION, DESIGNED TO FOSTER CLOSER RELATIONS BETWEEN INDIA AND AFRICAN NATION.

    FOLLOWING THE LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE, THE EMPEROR WAS GUEST OF THE COUNCIL AT LUNCH.

    BESIDES THE OFFICIAL PARTY OF 17 PEOPLE TRAVELLING WITH THE EMPEROR, HIS SMALL DOG, LULU, HAS ACCOMPANIED HIM ON HIS TOUR AND HAS ATTENDED MOST OF THE OFFICIAL FUNCTION.

    DURING THE FOUR-DAY VISIT, EMPEROR SELASSIE INVITED PRIME MINISTER GANDHI AND THE INDIAN PRESIDENT, DR. ZAKIR HUSSAIN, TO VISIT ETHIOPIA. DR. HUSSAIN AND MR. GANDHI ACCEPTED THE INVITATION BUT NO DATE HAS YET BEEN SET FOR THEIR VISITS.

    EMPEROR SELASSIE LEFT INDIA TODAY (WEDNESDAY) FOR BANGKOK TO CONTINUE A TOUR WHICH TAKE HIM TO EIGHT NATIONS, INCLUDING THAILAND, CAMBODIA, INDONESIA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH KOREA, MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE.
