    Vatican City--British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, in Rome on a three-day official visit, had a thirty-minute private audience with Pope John 23rd here on February 2nd.

    Speaking in French, they talked privately in the Pope's library. Afterwards, members of Mr. Macmillan's suite met with the Pontiff for about ten-minutes. Included were Lord Privy Seal Edward Health, British Minister to the Vatican Sir Peter Scarlett, and Mr. Macmillan's two private secretaries.

    Pope John presented the British Premier with a series of three Ecumenical Council medals designed by the Italian sculptor, Manzu. One was in gold, one in silver and one in bronze.

    Vatican sources, commenting on the meeting between Prime Minister Macmillan and Pope John, described their talk as "cordial".
