Most passed harmlessly through open country but one 'twister', as they're called there, hit the small farming town of Hubbard. Almost every building in town was damaged, and several wee destroyed. Five people died, and about eighty were injured. Telephone and electricity services were cut, and the town's water-tank damaged so that supplies had to be brought in form elsewhere.
There was some looting, and troops volunteer National Guardsmen - were brought in to close the shopping area. The damage was expected to run to millions of dollars.
Another tornado ran through Burnet, another small country town. Between two and three hundred homes and businesses were destroyed or severally damaged, but only seven people were injured - a 'miracle' according to a government public safety official.
