  • Description

In Athens Stadium, Aug 13, Crown Prince Constantine of Greece took the Olympic torch from the last of a series of runners who had brought it from Olympic its place of kindling, 225 miles away.

Prince Constantine then used the torch to light an altar in the Stadium. National Theatre actress Aleka Katseli, in the robes of an ancient Grecian priestess, rekindled the torch from the altar, before handing it to a runner who bore it to the port of Piraeus, 6 miles away.

There, Prince Constantine was waiting to receive it, and pass it to Signor Oneglio, Vice President of the Italian Olympic Committee; he carried it aboard the Italian naval training ship "Amerigo Vespucci" which will bear it to Italy.
