    Important art treasures from the collection of Queen Elizabeth II go on show at the Queen's Gallery, alongside London's Buckingham Palace, on Friday (May 22). The exhibition is centred on the work of Thomas Gainsborough, one of the foremost English painters of portraits and landscapes.

    The exhibition contains all the Gainsborough from the royal collection, which contains more paintings by this artist than any other gallery.

    Highlights of the priceless collection include royal portraits which exhibitions greater distinction. beauty and even wit than the comparable work of any other English painter.

    Among the royal portraits in the exhibitions is an oil of George III which won acclamation when first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1781. There is also a series of 15 portraits of King George and various members of his family which was commissioned during the following year.

    Gainsborough was the only great English portraitist of the eighteenth century to compose large number of landscapes. And he also followed contemporary trends by experimenting with mythological subject-an oil of Diana and Actaeon represents this aspect of his work in the royal collection.
