TRANSLATOR: "If the United States responds to our demands and participates in the Paris Conference on April 27th - we are prepared to attend the session of the conference too. But in case the United States continues the bombing of North Vietnam - then we continue our demand that the bombing be stopped."
XUAN THUY: "I just said that we have always demanded that the United States totally and unconditionally stop the bombing of North Vietnam. But the Nixon Administration continues to put forward false statements about their so-called tacit agreements. This is why we have now taken the decision to publish the contents of this agreement between the DRVN and the United States so as to make clear to public opinion the truth of their contents."

Background: The North Vietnamese mission to the Paris Peace Talks on Thursday (20 April) repeated its demand that the United States cease immediately the bombing of North Vietnam, and return to the suspended peace talks.
The Hanoi statement insists that the next session of the talks take place as scheduled - next Thursday (27 April). The talks have been interrupted since March 23, when the United States delegation walked out, demanding at the Communist delegations show evidence of wanting serious negotiation before talks could resume again.
The North Vietnamese position was put to newsmen in Paris by the head of the delegation, Xuan Thuy, through a translator.
(The last part of Mr. Xuan Thuy's statement included on this film is taken to refer to the agreements which the United States claims have been broken by the North Vietnamese offensive in Vietnam. A statement from Hanoi last week stated categorically that the United States had "invented" the story about North Vietnam violating the agreement. It describes the so-called understanding as a "myth").
