The Board of Directors of the Union of Arabian Tourism Agents is meeting in Amman, the capital of Jordan. The Agents' five-day conference which began on the 16 September, is aimed at promoting tourism in the Arab world.
Delegates from Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan are taking part.
The Jordanian Minister of Tourism, Mr. Ghaleb Barakat, made the opening speech at the conference, urging the delegates to encourage tourism to the Arab world.
Jordan itself has undertaken a three-year development plan to improve its historic and natural sites and develop new attractions, in an effort to boost tourism. About GBP 5 million sterling (4m. dinars) is being spent by the Jordan government and large investments are expected from the private sector.
