  • Description

United States Treasury Secretary Anderson, and Mr Dillon of the State Department, led a 24-man delegation on a three-day visit to Bonn, where they were received at the airport, late on Nov 19, by West German Minister of Economics, Professor Erhard, and by Dr von Scherpenberg, a representative of the Foreign Ministry.

In an exchange of friendly greetings at the airport - with references to cooperation, frankness and understanding - Mr Anderson merely stated he was going to discuss with Chancellor Adenauer and the Federal Government "matters of common interest in the field of international finance." It is expected, however, that the American delegation will demand from West Germany a larger effort in aid for underdeveloped countries and some kind of contribution towards the cost of maintaining U.S. troops in Europe.

It has been stated repeatedly that the American forces in Germany are costing 600 million dollars a year - more than half the cost of all American forces in Europe.
