Rockets continue to strike the Phnom Penh area daily. On Monday Feb. 17 three 107mm rockets struck downtown Phnom Penh between 0830 and 0900hrs. The first hit in a tree-lined street only 100 metres from the school "College Wat Phnom". where 14 children had been killed and about 30 wounded when a rocket ??? the school on the ??? of ???.
The first rocket hit a tree and smashed a car passing underneath. The woman driver was lightly wounded and walked to a nearby hospital. The Wat Phnom school was closed immediately and rescheduled its opening for 2 weeks hence (March 3). The school is one of the best known in Phnom Penh and had been run by madam SISOWATH PORRASI (pron. sis-on-wot por-rah-see) for over 20 years. Over 1,000 primary and secondary school pupils attend the school in two daily shifts. The second rocket struck near the former Royal Palace, which overlooks the Tonle Sap River there. One person was lightly wounded only at that site. The rockets were launched from across the Tonle Sap & Mekong Rivers (the 2 rivers form a junction at Phnom Penh) about three kilometres away. Whilst police and civilians were inspecting the spot where the second rocket struck they heard the faint thud of a third being launched, and took immediate cover until the danger passed. The third rocket landed some distance away.
