  • Description

In Dublin on Thursday (12 August), Prime Minister Jack Lynch called for the abolition of the Stormont' Government in Northern Ireland and accused it of responsibility for recurring violence there. In a statement following a day-long cabinet meeting on the Northern Ireland crisis, Mr. Lynch said the Stormont Government should be replaced by an administration in which decisions were made by both unionist and non-unionist legislators. The current Northern Ireland regime is unionist -- supporting the division of the North from the Irish Republic. Mr. Lynch said the Stormont' regime has repressed the non-unionist population and must be brought to an end.
