    MORE THAN 300 EXPERTS REPRESENTING THE WORLD'S MAJOR AIRLINES BEGAN A MEETING IN ATHENS TODAY (MONDAY) TO DRAW UP NEW PASSENGER FARES AND CARGO RATES FOR OPERATORS SUBSCRIBING TO THE INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION.

    STAGED IN THE LUSH HILTON HOTEL, THE OPENING SESSION OF THE CONFERENCE WAS ADDRESSED BY MR. ALAMANIS, THE GREEK COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER, AND MR. WILLIAM HILDRED, THE CHAIRMAN OF I.A.T.A. WHO SPOKE AT LENGTH ON THE AIMS AND IMPORTANCE OF THE CONFERENCE.

    THE AVIATION EXPERTS REPRESENTS 93 AIRLINERS IN SOME 70 COUNTRIES ON ALL CONTINENTS, WHICH CONTROL THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE AIR PASSENGER AND FREIGHT TRAFFIC THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

    THE FARES AND CARGO RATES SCHEDULED WILL OCCUPY MOST OF THE CONFERENCE'S TIME AND THE DECISIONS WILL COME INTO EFFECT ON APRIL 1, NEXT YEAR.

    THE CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN, HERR JOACHIM VON FRANKENBERG, OF LUFTHANSA, THE WEST GERMAN AIRLINE, SAID EARLIER THAT IT WAS UNLIKELY THAT THERE WOULD BE ANY UPWARD TREND IN INTERNATIONAL FARES, ALTHOUGH IN SOME CASES ADJUSTMENTS WERE LIKELY TO BE MADE.
