TITOV, WHO MADE 17 -ORBITS OF THE EARTH IN AUGUST 1961 IS IN THE UNITED STATES TO ATTEND THE THIRD ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SPACE CONFERENCE BEING HELD THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON.

    FOG SHROUDED THE UPPER STORIES OF THE SECRETARIAT BUILDING AS MAJOR AND MRS. TITOV ARRIVED. THEY WERE GREETED BY MEMBERS OF THE SOVIET DELEGATION AND THE U.N. CHIEF OF PROTOCOL WHO TOOK THEM IMMEDIATELY TO THE 38TH FLOOR TO MET ACTING SECRETARY GENERAL U THANT. FOLLOWING A PRIVATE RECEPT ON ATTENDED BY MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE PEACEFUL USES OF OUTER SPACE, THE TITOV'S WERE TAKEN ON A TOUR OF THE U.N. MEETING ROOMS. SECRETARIAT STAFF MEMBERS CRAMMED THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL CHAMBER TO GREET THE ASTRONAUT.

    IF A FIVE -MINUTE ADDRESS HE RAISED LAUGHTER BY SAYING THAT OUTER SPACE IS AN ENORMOUS BUT THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM FOR EVERYBODY FOLLOWING RUSSIAN CUSTOM TITOV ACKNOWLEDGED APPLAUD BY CLAPPING HIS HANDS,IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY MAJOR AND MRS. TITOV MOUNTED THE SODIUM TO POSE FOR PHOTOGRAPHER BEFORE GOING OUT INTO THE HALL, WHERE A LARGE CROWN OF TOURIST WAS WAITING TO CHEER HIM.LAST STOP WAS IN THE LOBBY WHERE TITOV STOPPED BESIDE THE MODEL OF SPUTNIK I, THE FIRST IN ALONG LINE OF RUSSIAN SPACECRAFT WHICH PRECEDED THE MANNED FLIGHTS OF GAGARIN AND TITOV.

    LATER MAJOR TITOV VISITED WALL STREET, WATCHING THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE FROM THE GALLERY.

    PRESIDENT KENNEDY HAS HAD TO CANCEL HIS PRESS CONFERENCE ON MAY 3RD BECAUSE TITOV IS ADDRESSING AN INTERNATIONAL SPACE SYMPOSIUM IN THE STATE DEPARTMENT MAIN AUDITORIUM WHERE THE PRESIDENT NORMALLY MEETS JOURNALISTS.
