    PRESIDENT HAMANI DIORI OF NIGER ARRIVED AT KIMPO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, SEOUL, ON MONDAY (27 OCT.) TO BEGIN A FIVE-DAY STATE VISIT TO SOUTH KOREA. PRESIDENT CHUNG-HEE PARK WAS AT THE AIRPORT TO GREET HIM.

    PRESIDENT DIORI, WHO HAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS WIFE AND AN OFFICIAL PARTY OF 12, WAS GREETED BY PRESIDENT AND MRS PARK AND A LARGE GATHERING OF OFFICIALS AND DIPLOMATS.

    AT THE AIRPORT THE DISTINGUISHED VISITOR, THE SECOND AFRICAN HEAD OF STATE TO VISIT SOUTH KOREA, WAS GIVEN A GOLDEN KEY TO SEOUL CITY, AND REVIEWED A GUARD OF HONOUR WITH PRESIDENT PARK.

    IN AN AIRPORT SPEECH, PRESIDENT PARK SAID THAT THOUGH THEIR TWO COUNTRIES WERE GEOGRAPHICALLY APART, HE REGARDED NIGER AS A CLOSE NEIGHBOUR SINCE BOTH COUNTRIES WERE PURSUING COMMON IDEALS AND OBJECTIVES. HE EXPRESSED HOPES THAT PRESIDENT DIORI'S VISIT WOULD MARK A NEW ERA IN STRENGTHENING CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO NATIONS.

    PRESIDENT DIORI SAID HE WAS AWARE OF SOUTH KOREA'S EFFORTS FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE AND HOPED FOR AN EARLY AND PEACEFUL REUNIFICATION OF KOREA. HE THANKED SOUTH KOREA FOR ITS CO-OPERATION IN SENDING SEVERAL KOREAN DOCTORS TO NIGER.

    THE NIGER LEADER, WHO FLEW TO SOUTH KOREA AFTER VISITING TAIWAN, WAS DUE TO HOLD TWO ROUNDS OF TALKS WITH PRESIDENT PARK AND VISIT AN INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX AND A FARM DURING HIS STAY. THE TALKS WERE TODAY (WEDNESDAY) REPORTED TO HAVE LED TO A DRAFT TRADE AGREEMENT UNDER WHICH SOUTH KOREA WOULD SEND MORE MEDICAL AID AND A TECHNICAL SURVEY TEAM TO LOOK INTO NIGER'S DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS IN MINING, AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRY.

    YESTERDAY (TUESDAY), PRESIDENT DIORI WENT TO SEOUL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WHERE ITS PRESIDENT CONFERRED ON HIM THE HONORARY DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF AGRICULTURE.
