    THE NEW HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME AT NKULA FALLS, IN MALAWI, WHICH WAS BEGUN TWO YEARS AGO IS EXPECTED TO BE IN FULL COMMERCIAL OPERATION THIS SUMMER.

    THE NKULA FALLS PROJECT IS THE MOST ECONOMICAL SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY AVAILABLE TO THE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY COMMISSION OF MALAWI, AND WILL REPLACE THE STEAM AND DIESEL POWER STATION IN BLANTYRE, WHICH AT PRESENT SUPPLIES THE BULK OF ELECTRICITY USED IN THE SOUTHERN REGION OF MALAWI.

    WHEN THE NKULA FALLS PLANT IS FULLY OPERATIONAL, OVER 1,000 MILLION TONS OF WATER WILL PASS THROUGH ITS 13,850 HORSEPOWER TURBINES EACH DAY.
