TRANSCRIPT: WALEY: "These are the three World Series players who were flown back to Karachi to join their Pakistan team mates against England in the third test, Mushtaq Mohammed, Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan

"And it was the official call to them by the Pakistan authorities which prompted the statement issued by England's injured captain Michael Brearley -- namely that his team members unanimously oppose selection of World Series cricket players. That says the World Series' Tony Greig is a load of rubbish."

SEQ. 3: Greig: "I'm really a little wary of it because I know Mike Brearley very well and in the past he's been very constructive and he's one of the guys whose been trying to promote compromise, and he's also been one of the chaps who's wanted the best side to play and so I'm a little surprised and I'm wary of how unanimous it was. I can understand that some of the players who've been picked for the MCC side see a situation if the Packer players come back to play that their jobs will be in jeopardy, in other words their positions in that side because at the moment they're not the best side. If Knotty and Underwood and company go back some people will have to drop out...and that's the state of affairs we're in. But I'm not too sure, I don't think the MCC players are in a position to try to tell the Pakistani Board or the Pakistani selector who they should pick."

Background: Former England cricket captain Tony Greig, who is now skipper of Kerry Packer's World Eleven, has accused current England captain Geoff Boycott of being behind the threatened strike of England players before the final Test against Pakistan in Karachi. Greig, speaking in Sydney, on Wednesday (18 January), accused Boycott of organising a protest against Kerry Packer players, who it was thought might be selected by Pakistan for the Karachi Test. However, Greig said he thought it was unlikely that Boycott's predecessor, the injured Mike Brearley, had anything to do with the protest. Jim Waley of TCN Channel Nine reports....
