  • Description

In Hong Kong, a surveyed vessel - "ISIS" - has been launched as part of an effort by the Government and people of the united Kingdom to help in the Mekong River Project. The Mekong River project is one of the big schemes sponsored in Asia by the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East. Its purpose is to develop agriculture and industry along this great river which runs through Thailand, and the former Indo-China States (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam).

This survey vessel was launched in Hong Kong by the wife of the assistant United Kingdom Trade Commissioner, Mrs. Davenport. Its nameplate shows that it was "presented by the Government and people of the United Kingdom". The vessel is 53 feet long.

At the ceremony in Hong Kong, representatives of the Consular Corps attended, including the Consul-General for Thailand, the Consul for the Republic of Vietnam, and the New Zealand Trade Commissioner.

"The Isis" is the second survey vessel of its type to be built in the dockyard in Hong Kong.
