Background: When relief supplies began flowing into Honduras after the country was devastated by hurricane winds and flooding, distribution problems had to be overcome.

Many foreign aircraft were volunteered for the purpose and one which is still operating is an old Dakota Mercy Airlift, owned by United States charity organisations.

And amony the crew is actress Tippi Hedren, remembered for her leading part in the Alfred Hitchcock film, "the Birds". Tippi, with the Dakota's captain Joe Morgan and his crew, has been working to bring relief supplies from honduran airports to outlying areas.

Mercy Arilift gives its services free, with fuel supplied by the Honduran Government. Tippi and the crew - all from California - pay for their own accomodation and expenses while int the country.

The aircraft had been in Honduras for one week on Monday (30 September) It flies 12 hours a day carrying maximum loads of 5,000lbs (2,200kilos)per trip, carrying medical teams and missionaries to smaller landing strips aleng the country's north coast and in the Sula Valley.

Mercy Airlift is owned by three organisations - Food for the Hungry, World Concern and World Gospel. It was bought in January this year and has since flow nearly 60,000 miles (96,000kms) carrying medical supplies and food to Haiti and Central America without payment.
