  • Description

The world gliding championships at Waikerie -- an aboriginal name meaning "Many Wings" -- in South Australia have been hit by bad weather so far.

??? lost both the schedule first and second days (January 13 & 14) The first day's activities were cancelled because heavy overnight rain had left many parts of the aerodrons under water and low cloud also made flying impractical.

The second day's weather improved with no rain but the low cloud base at 1500 ft. (500 metres) made flying impossible although organisers said they were optimistic about beginning the championships on the 15th.

Pilots from 22 countries have entered the championships; the favourite in the open class is reigning champion Goran Ax, a 31-years-old Swedish airline pilot.
