    SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS HAVE BEEN TAKING PART IN AN INTENSIVE SWEEP OF AN AREA HELD BY VIET CONG FORCES AT MOUNT HON QUICH, NEAR QUI NHON, 330 MILES (530 KMS) NORTH-EAST OF SAIGON. THE FOUR-DAY OPERATION LIGHTING EAGLE TOOK TROOPS OF THE SECOND CORPS THROUGH STRONGLY-HELD JUNGLE COUNTRY. THEY CLAIMED 170 VIET CONG KILLED AND 14 CAPTURED.

    THE SOUTH KOREANS CLAIMED TO HAVE CAPTURE LARGE QUANTITIES OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION IN THE OPERATION, INCLUDING 26 AUTOMATIC WEAPONS AND A 61 MM MORTAR RIFLE.

    THE HELICOPTER-BORNE TROOPS WERE SET DOWN IN CLEARINGS NEAR THE JUNGLE, FROM WHERE THEY BEGAN THEIR SWEEP.

    SEVERAL CACHES OF MORTAR AMMUNITION WERE DISCOVERED.

    DURING THEIR SEARCH MISSION, THE SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS FREQUENTLY RAN THE RISK OF FALLING TO BOOBY TRAPS HIDDEN BY REATREATING VIET CONG TROOPS.
