Zaire's President Mobuto arrived in Morocco on Tuesday (30 May) for talks with king Hassan. He was expected to ask for military aid for his fight against rebels in Shaba province. President Mobutu flew to Rabat from Paris where he had a final meeting on Monday (29 May) with President Giscard d'Estaing.
SYNOPSIS: The two presidents met at the Elysee Place, but President Mobutu made no statement after their hour-long talk. He has already thanked President Giscard d'Estaing for sending French legionnaires to Zaire to help combat the rabel invasion and to rescue European refugees caught in the fighting. In Rabat President Mobutu was expected to ask for significant military aid from King Hassan. Morocco was the only nation to bac Zaire's army in its fight against a previous invasion of Shaba province last year.
