    BRITISH PRIME MINISTER HAROLD WILSON YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) SPENT A DAY OF TALKS IN THE ETHIOPIAN CAPITAL OF ADDIS ABABA. DURING THE DAY, HE SPENT 90 MINUTES IN CONFERENCE WITH EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE AT THE EMPEROR'S JUBILEE PALACE AND LATER ATTENDED A LUNCHEON AT THE BRITISH EMBASSY. MR WILSON HAS ARRIVED FROM LAGOS ON MONDAY (31 MARCH).

    MR WILSON, ACCOMPANIED BY A NUMBER OF HIS ADVISERS, BRIEFED THE EMPEROR ON HIS VISIT TO LAGOS FOR TALKS WITH THE FEDERAL NIGERIAN LEADERS, SOURCES SAID. THE EMPEROR HEADS A CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE APPOINTED BY THE ORGANISATION FOR AFRICA UNITY (O.A.U.) TO TRY TO END THE NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR.

    IN A JOINT COMMUNIQUE ISSUED LAST NIGHT, IT WAS SAID THAT THE EMPEROR AND MR WILSON HAD "EXCHANGE VIEWS ON THE MOST PRACTICAL STEPS THAT MIGHT BE TAKEN TOWARDS ACHIEVING A NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENT AND FOUND THEMSELVES IN SUBSTANTIAL AGREEMENT."
    THE COMMUNIQUE SAID THAT MR WILSON HAD EXPRESSED HIS REGRET DURING THE TALKS THAT COLONEL OJUKWU, LEADER OF THE BREAKAWAY EASTERN NIGERIAN STATE OF BIAFRA, HAD APPARENTLY NOT FELT ABLE TO ACCEPT HIS INVITATION TO A MEETING IN WEST AFRICA.

    LATER, AT A LUNCHEON AT THE BRITISH EMBASSY, MR WILSON SPOKE WITH THE AMBASSADOR, LORD HUNT, AND MET M. DIALLO TELLI, THE O.A.U. SECRETARY-GENERAL. LATER, IN A TWO-HOUR MEETING WITH M. TELLI, MR WILSON WENT INTO DETAIL ON RELIEF WORK IN NIGERIA IN WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS FRANK EXCHANGE.

    THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER RETURNED TO LONDON TODAY (WEDNESDAY) AND IS EXPECTED TO MAKE A STATEMENT TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS ON HIS MISSION.
