Background: Over the weekend the African Opposition party in the Rhodesia Government hold it's first congress for eighteen month. Members of the "United Peoples Party" assembled at Gwelo-some 180 mile from Salisbury. Main item in the agenda was the election of a new leader. There are 13 members of the party(All African) in the Rhodesian Government and those from the only opposition to the Smith Regime. In the past year the leadership passed from Mr J.M. Gendo (MP for Ndanga) to Mr G.M. Ghipman (Bindura), and then in recent months back to Gondo. The change in leadership brought about a split in the party. The new leader is Mr. Percy Mkudu (M OO Do)
