  • Description

Vietnam Peace negotiators met again in Paris today (Thursday) for their regular weekly session minus chief Hanoi delegate Xuan Thuy, who returned to the city yesterday after a four-month absence.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Vy, leading the North Vietnamese delegation, told reporters before today's session that Mr. Thuy was taking a rest after his ling flight to France from Hanoi, but would be attending the next session.

The new chief American delegate, Mr. David Bruce, who missed last week's session because of Mr. Thuy's absence, attended today's meeting.

Mr. Thuy's return to Paris yesterday has set the stage for a new series of mutual probes into breaking the 19-month-old deadlock between the parties concerned. He has not attended a session since last December when he began a boycott in protest against President Nixon's failure to name a high-ranking negotiator to replace Mr. Henry Cabot Lodge, who resigned as chief American delegate at that tine.

Before the meeting, Mr. Vy said he would condemn warlike remarks of U.S. Vice-president Spiro Agnew and denounce what he called continued American escalation of war in Laos and Cambodia and continued bombing of North Vietnam.

Mr. Bruce made similar comments to the press on leaving the meeting hall, and said he was looking forward to the next session, when he hoped Mr. Thuy would be present.
