Background: Many of us have had the opportunity to fly aboard the airliners created by the outstanding designer A.N.Tupolev. Over a hundred different aircraft were constructed in Tupolev's Design Office, from the legendary ANT-25 on which Chkalov performed his flight to America, to the airliner of tomorrow, the TU-154, which will soon begin to fly on the airlines of the country. A.N. Tupolev is celebrating his 80th birthday. On this day he was awarded the Order of Lenin. The hero of the jubilee was warmly greeted by Dementyev, Minister of Aviation Industry. Stojan Gurov, the Ambassador of the Peoples' Republic of Bulgaria in the USSR, presented A.N. Tupolev the second Order of Georgi Dimitrov. A.N. Tupolev was also warmly greeted by Smirnov, Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, by Keldish, President of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and by General Designer Mikoyan. A.N. Tupolev expressed his sincere gratitude for the greetings and for the high estimation of his work.
