President Mokhtar Ould Deddah of Mauritania flew to Algiers yesterday (Monday) with his wife and two children. They have gone for a private visit which will probably last about three weeks; but President Ould Daddah is expected to take the opportunity to have talks with President Boumedienne.
President Boumedienne had sent his private aircraft - an Ilyushin 18 - to bring President Ould Daddah and his family from Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital. And there was a formal greeting for the visitors at Algiers airport: the Algerian Foreign Minister, M. Bouteflika, and other members of the Algerian government and Revolutionary Council were there to meet them.
After his holiday, President Ould Daddah has a heavy programme in September, including a three-power summit meeting in Nouakchott with leaders from Algeria and Morocco. He is thought likely to want to see President Boumedienne before that, to discuss current problems, and matters concerning their two countries alone.
