The International Congress and Convention Association is holding its ninth general assembly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Delegates from 35 nations represented at ICCA are meeting to consider the suitability of Abidjan as a convention centre in the future. They were welcomed to Abidjan and to the Hotel Ivoire by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, M. Konan Bedie.
In choosing Adidjan for the ICCA convention, the organisation is looking, towards the implementation of the African development plan, a fifteen-year project to bring tourism to West Africa on a massive scale.
The Hotel Ivorie in Abijan is to be extended from 500 rooms to 1,200. A large convention hall is to be built to seat 2,200 people. And other tourist industries are to be financial and set up.
This meeting of the ICCA is the first to be held in Africa. Excursions have been arranged for the delegates to show them the tourist amenities, real an potential, in the Ivory Coast.
