Background: Australia's sixteen-year old swimming start Karen Moras ripped to victory in the 400 metres freestyle at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh today (Monday). It was her second gold medal within 48-hours, having won the 800 metres freestyle in world record time on Saturday.

Despite her success, the little Australian girl was disappointed. She had set her heart on beating American Debbie Meyer's record of four minutes 24.5 seconds, but failed by only three seconds.

Karen's win together with compatriot Mike Wenden's victory in the 100 metres freestyle, helped bring Australia's Gold Medal total to 13. This was four more than England at the end of the day's events. Canada, with five golds, are third in the medals table.
