    Sixteen-year-old Anne-Narie Proell of Austria won the women's special slalom at Saint Gervais, France, yesterday (January the 29th).

    She is now only nine points behind Michele Jacot of France who is leading in the women's world cup with 132 points.

    Miss Proell proved yesterday she is one of the world's outstanding women skiers. Her time of 91.9 seconds was 1.9 seconds faster than the second placegetter, Barbara Cochran of the United States. In third place was Rosi Mittermaier of West Germany. Her time was 93.15 seconds.

    Michele Jacot of France finished fourth in 83.6 seconds. Then came Betsy Clifford of Canada (93.72) Serni Rauter of Austria (95.91) Judy Crawford of Canada (96.37) Gina Hawthorn of Britain (97.04) Odile Chalvin of France (97.38) and Christine Rolland of France (97.39).

    In the first heat there were 56 gates and in the second 53.

    Miss Proell trailed Miss Cochran after the first heat. The Austrian girl was second away in the second heat and raced down the 420 yard (metre) course in 44.93 seconds,the best time of the day. None of the other girls could match it.

    Barbara Cochran's time was her best of the season. But she said later..."I didn't push enough out there. I just seemed to be holding it back.
