Background: There are still more than two years to go before the start of the 1980 Olympic Games, but already there is plenty going on in the Soviet capital to interest sports fans. Currently on at the impressive new exhibition ground is 'Sport 78', an exhibition of sports goods and equipment, covering a whole range of events.
SYNOPSIS: The exhibition is sponsored by the Soviet Committee for Sport, and the 1980 Olympic Games Organising Committee.
More than 200 companies, from 21 countries, have stands at the exhibition, which is the largest of its kind to be held in the Soviet Union.
There is something for everyone, the player, the spectator and for those more technically minded.
The exhibition has been staged with the Olympics in mind, but it has also been designed to appeal to a mass market.
Many of the companies exhibiting already have close ties with Soviet sports organisation. For the rest it is an excellent showcase for their products.
