    Background: In Cairo President Anwar Sadat reviewed the country's political and military situation during a two-and-a-half hour meeting with the National Assembly on Wednesday. The Assembly was sitting in its capacity as the central committee of the Arab Socialist Union, the only political organisation in the country.

    During his speech to the members the President said there were no secret provisions in the 15-year friendship and cooperation treaty signed last week with the Soviet Union.
