MAIN INTEREST IN THE SPORTING EVENTS OF THE LAST DAY CENTRED ON THE MEN'S 1500 METRES WHICH ATTRACTED A TOP CLASS FIELD. WORLD RECORD HOLDER KIP-CHOGE KIANO HAD LITTLE TROUBLE IN TAKING OUT THE EVENT, BUT HIS TIME WAS WELL BELOW THE RECORD. HOSTS NAIROBI WON THE SOCCER, HOCKEY AND CRICKET TITLES, WHILE MAKERERE TOOK OUT THE RUGBY, VOLLEY-BALL AND BASKETBALL.

TRACK AND FIELD HONOURS WERE VIRTUALLY EVEN. OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST SANG OF KENYA SHOWED GOOD FORM TO TAKE OUT THE MEN'S 100 METRES OPEN. DAR ES SALAAM TOOK THE HONOURS IN THE WOMEN'S EVENT OVER THE SAME DISTANCE. MAKERERE HAD THEIR REVENGE IN THE MEN'S 800 METRES BY TAKING FIRST TWO PLACES IN GOOD TIME. ZAMBIAN ATHLETES WERE WELL PLACED IN A NUMBER OF EVENTS.
