    The Shackleton Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft is capable of extremely long range and endurance, and is employed on anti-submarine and patrol work with Maritime Forces throughout the World. The aircraft is powered by four Rolls-Royce Griffon engines driving contra-rotating propellers. Later versions of the M 3 also have two Viper engines situated in the outboard Griffon engine nacelles to give improved take-off and climb performance. The Shackleton can stay airborne for up to 24 hours, and carries a crew of ten.

    In addition to its other roles, the Shackleton is also tasked with carrying out Search and Rescue operations, and has been responsible for saving countless lives at sea.
