    A series of measures designed to cut the risk of cholera spreading during the Moslem pilgrimage to Mecca early next year was adopted in Rabat on Wednesday (October 28) by public health officials from Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia. But details of the measure, which are to be submitted in the form of recommendations to the governments concerned, were not revealed.

    The measures were drafted at a one-day meeting called in Rabat by Abdelmajid Belmahi, the Moroccan Minister of Health, to decide how to reduce the cholera risk during the Mecca pilgrimage next January and February by about 20,000 Moslems from the five countries.

    Speakers stressed the need for strict preventative measures during the pilgrimage, a psychological campaign to reassure populations and for precise information about the cholera epidemic in affected countries.

    The meeting was attended by Dr. Omar Boudjellab, Algerian Minister of Health and population, Driss Guiga, Tunisian Minister of Health, Ahmed Ben Amar, Mauritanian Minister of Health and Labour Wone Ibrahima, Director of Health from Senegal.
