    THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING A VISIT TO AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND UNITS BASED AT NUI DAT, NEAR SAIGON. THE MISFIRED MORTAR LANDED IN AN AUSTRALIAN TENT A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY.

    IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE MISHAP, PRIME MINISTER KY JOKINGLY TOLD PHOTOGRAPHERS: "DON'T SHOW THIS PICTURE IN AUSTRALIA OR MR AUTHUR CALWELL WILL CALL ME A WAR-MONGER." (MR CALWELL, AUSTRALIA'S PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION LEADER HAD CRITICISED PREMIER KY'S VISIT TO AUSTRALIA, SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK).

    THE PRIME MINISTER THEN CONTINUED HIS CAMP TOUR. IT TOOK HIM TO A NEW ZEALAND ARTILLERY UNIT AND SOME AMERICAN FORCES IN THE AREA.
