  • Description

There was widespread disruption to householders, hospitals and motorists in many parts of Britain today (Monday) following a work to rule by men employed in electricity generating plants. The men are working to rule in support of a day rise of 30 per cent. They have rejected an offer of just over ten per cent.

Up to fifteen per cent of Britain was effected by the work to rule today (Monday) and the situation may become worse if the dispute continues. The electrical workers are refusing to work overtime or assume additional duties.

There was chaos around London as traffic lights failed: normal hospital electricity was reduced, and many areas were reduced to indeterminate periods of darkness.

The Smithfield Show at Early Court, the premier prime producers exposition in Britain, was plunged into semi-darkness, and livestock judges examined livestock with the aid of emergency lighting.
