Background: Vietnamese and Algerian officials have begun talks on ways to increase co-operation between their two countries.
SYNOPSIS: The talks followed the arrival of the Vietnamese Vice President, Nguyen Huu, in the Algerian capital of Algiers on Tuesday (17 October). At Dar El Beida Airport, Mr. Huu and his delegation were met by the Algerian Ministers of Land and Water Development, Ahmed Bencherif.
Mr. Bencherif is also a member of the Algerian Revolutionary Council. Algeria's President Houari Boumedienne is currently in Moscow on what has been officially described as a "working visit". The Vietnamese Vice President has recently completed a visit to the West African state of Benin and will later visit Bulgaria. Officials have described the talks between Algeria and Vietnam as part of a number of friendly exchanges between the two countries, but have declined to say what topics were covered in the discussions.
