West German Foreign Minister Walter Scheel arrived in Abidjan on Tuesday night for a 48-hour official visit to the Ivory Coast. He was received by President Houphouet-Boigny on Wednesday (20 October) and had lunch at the Presidential Palace.
The following day, Herr Scheel left for Nouakchott.
SYNOPSIS: The West German Foreign Minister, Herr Walter Scheel, called at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan on Wednesday for talks with President Houphouet-Boigny. Herr Scheel was accompanied by Ivorian Foreign Minister Arsese Usher.
Herr Scheel said on his arrival that the visit was the expression of the excellent relations and the common convictions which unite the Federal German Republic and the Ivory Coast.
Herr Scheel said West Germany had a deep regard for the wise policies of the Ivorian President. The West German Minister had already visited Nigeria, Cameroun and Congo-Kinshasa during his west African tour, and was due to fly on to Mauritania.
