Background: Thousands of Congolese demonstrated in Brazzaville on Thursday (March 2nd) to condemn leaders of last month's abortive coup. Some speakers called for the execution of all who took part in the conspiracy.
On the same day, Congo-Brazzaville radio denied that one of the coup leaders, Lieutenant Ange-Diawara, was in control of an armed military column. A nationwide search for Lt. Diawara, a former minister, has so far resulted in the arrest of 78 people.
