    Major- General Georges Vanier, first French-Canadian Governor-General of Canada, on an official visit to France went to the presidential Elysee Palace, Paris, Aug 20 to meet a wartime colleague - President de Gaulle of France.

    The President, on holiday, drove from his country retreat at Colombey Les Deux Eglises to entertain General Vanier and his wife at a private luncheon at the Elysee.

    The two leaders became friends in wartime Algiers. In N. Africa General Vanier represented Canada on the French Committee of National Liberation. Later he became Ambassador in Paris. He still limps as the result of a 1914 war wound.
