    PAKISTAN REVEALED SOME OF ITS MOST MODERN DEFENCE EQUIPMENT ON SATURDAY AT A HUGE MILITARY PARADE IN RAWALPINDI TO CELEBRATE THE TWENTY EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DECLARATION MAKING PAKISTAN A HOMELAND FOR MOSLEMS IN A THEN UNDIVIDED INDIA.

    THE PARADE WAS REVIEWED BY THE PAKISTANI DEFENCE MINISTER, AFZAL REHMAN KHAN, WHO ACCUSED INDIA OF ADOPTING AN INTRANSIGENT ATTITUDE ON THE ISSUE OF KASHMIR. MR. KHAN SAID INDIA'S ATTITUDE WAS DETRIMENTAL TO WORLD PEACE, AND PAKISTAN THEREFORE HAD TO BE READY TO DEFEND HERSELF.

    AT A FLYPAST PAKISTAN UNVEILED THE FIRST OF 50 MIRAGE FIGHTER-BOMBERS. IN THE FLYPAST WERE ALSO AMERICAN, CHINESE AND BRITISH AIRCRAFT PAKISTAN IS REPORTED TO HAVE PURCHASED SINCE THE GROWING DISPUTE OVER KASHMIR IN 1965.

    THE ANNUAL PARADE IS NORMALLY REVIEWED BY PRESIDENT AYUB KHAN. HOWEVER, HE WAS ABSENT THIS YEAR WHILE CONVALESCING AFTER A SERIOUS ILLNESS.

    AN INDIAN REPORT SAYS PAKISTAN HAS DOUBLED ITS LAND AND AIR FORCES SINCE THE FIRST DISPUTE OVER KASHMIR IN 1965.
