    Background: Again spring...

    Its the fifteenth spring since the end of the war and how different it is compared with the unforgettable spring in 1945.

    Opole - the beautiful capital of a Voivodship - known for agricultural and industrial achievements.

    Opole has 55 thousand inhabitants.

    But the number of inhabitants is steadily growing.

    Therefore new housing blocks have to be constructed.

    Comfortable and full of light.

    The Opole Pedagocical School - the first University in the history of this town.

    The profession of a teacher is highly esteemed and there are always many candidates to this school.

    The school is it the same time a regional center of culture and science, having many achievements, on this field.

    And now we are going 800 kilometres west and 600 years back.

    An abbey from the XIII century in Krzeszow near Kamienna Gora.

    Tombs of Piast Princes - Prince Boles???aw I and his successors.

    The Piast Eagles remind of the Polish past of this territory, about traditions, successes and failures.

    Nowadays, in the modern world the present is more important than the past.

    And that's why most important are the last fourteen years, connected with our personal experiences and sentiments.

    Wroc???aw - after the war, one of the most damaged Polish towns.

    Today - one of the biggest centers of building works.

    The center of the town as well as the suburbs. A common sight in todays' Wroc???aw - on an empty square new fundaments. This time its a new school.

    Today Wroc???aw is again an important commercial and industrial center.

    To 400.000 people their own, native town. The Odra River ruas through Wroc???aw. New ships for the river-traffic are launched here.

    In the "Zacisze" shipyard the construction of the first 500 ton meter-barge has been completed.

    The ship isn't big, but this small ceremony means a new stage in the development of Polish river-traffic.

    The Wroc???aw shipyards also are building ships for export.

    For Egypt tank barges with the trade mark "Wroc???aw-Poland".

    About two hundred of such motor-barges shall be construced in the Wroc???aw shipyards.

    At the other end of the Odra in Szocecin a launiching ceremony is held.

    Further 4.000 tons for our fleet.

    On the same day was handed over the the Polish Ocean Lines, the motor-ship "Ole???nica". Soon "Ole???nica" will start regular communication to North America.

    Now the Szececin shipyards start the construction of the first 10.000 ton ship.

    Under the white and red flag the significant inscription: "Szocecin."
    And now we are going to Szczecinek, a small town in the Koszalin Voivodship.

    We are paying a visit to the tailors' shop of Adam Giedrys.

    But Mr. Giedrys is well-known not only for his tailoring Szozecinek has an own astronomical observatory - and a big number of lovers of astronomy, headed by Mr. Giedrys. this telescope was bought by the local People's Counsil, which is promoting all cultural activities.

    50 families live in the village Bielkowe in the Koszalin Voivodship - settlers from all parts of Poland. And about one hundred of children were already born in Biekowo.

    The youngest kids play under the careful eye of a nurse.

    Their parents are busy today. They are students of the People's University.

    Today a lecturer has come from Koszalin.

    A lecture about principles of hygienics and infections.

    Such matters interest everybody.

    And at last Koszalin - the youngest town of the Voivodship.

    In German times, a small town without any significance.

    Today an important, developing center.

    New houses, population twice as numerous as in 1946.

    And of course, like everywhere in the western territories an imposing natural increase.

    Long queues of prams wait at the milk bars.

    Seven million of people live today in the western Territories.

    Their life is better and easier than a few years ago.

    And all this - thanks to hard work, which is changing every day the look of this land.

    There also is more culture, courtesy and order. People have more time for entertainment.

    Here is the Koszalin theatre.
