The Ivory Coast Foreign Minister M. Arsene Usher Assouan has been made a Commander of the French Legion of Honour.
M. Assouan was installed in the order in the French Embassy in Abidjan yesterday (July 30) by the French Ambassador to the Ivory Coast, M. Jacques Raphael-Leygues.
The Mayor of Abidjan, the Secretary of State and other cabinet members attended the decoration ceremony.
In his speech M. Raphael-Leygyes praised M. Assouan for his devotion and courage and said he was "a living example, a living symbol of France-Ivory Coast friendship." The Foreign Minister also expressed his sincere wishes for a happy and lasting continuation of relationships between the two countries.
The end of the ceremony was marked by the playing of the French and Ivory Coast national anthems followed by a cocktail party attended by the official guests.
